Dental Tartar Cleaning

Tartar is a mineralized plaque deposit that accumulates on the teeth. Tartar is formed by the mineralization of plaque bacteria over time. Plaque deposits that cannot be cleaned by brushing and flossing become calcified over time and become a hard layer on the teeth.

Tartar can cause problems in terms of oral health. It can cause gum inflammation (gingivitis) and gum disease (periodontitis). It can also cause aesthetic and health problems such as yellowing of the teeth, bad breath, cavities and receding gums.

What is Tartar Cleaning? What are the Stages of Tartar Cleaning?

Tartar cleaning is a procedure performed by dentists or dental hygienists. This procedure is usually called “dental cleaning” or “professional dental cleaning”. The procedure usually includes the following steps:

Examination: The dentist or dental hygienist performs an examination to evaluate the health of the teeth and gums. X-rays may also be taken.

Plaque and tartar removal: A dentist or dental hygienist removes plaque and tartar that has accumulated on your teeth using special tools. This involves carefully cleaning the surfaces of your teeth, the spaces between your teeth, and the areas under your gums.

Dental cleaning: A dentist or dental hygienist cleans your teeth with a professional toothbrush and a special toothpaste. Dental cleaning removes stains from the surface of your teeth and leaves your teeth feeling smooth.

Dental polishing: The surface of your teeth is smoothed and polished. This helps prevent plaque from building up on your teeth.

Rinsing: The mouth is rinsed with a special mouthwash. This helps reduce bacteria and promotes oral hygiene.

Dental scaling is usually a painless procedure, but if you have sensitive gums or teeth, you may feel a little uncomfortable. This procedure is usually repeated every six months or as recommended by your dentist.
